Effective date: 23 June 2026 · Last updated: 23 June 2026

This page explains how the Halal & Healthy application (the "App", "we", "us", or "our"), published by Tag'In Tech , handles your information, and the terms under which you may use the App. By installing or using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy and to the Terms of Service set out below.

Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Halal & Healthy lets you scan product barcodes to look up food products and additives (E-codes), check their halal and nutritional status, save favourites, view scan history, and access related features such as prayer times. You can use the core features of the App without creating an account . We do not require your name, email address, or a sign-in to use the App.

Most of the data you generate (favourites, scan history, and settings) is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to us. A limited amount of diagnostic and usage data is processed by third-party services described below to keep the App stable and to understand how it is used.

2. Data we collect

Category What & why Where it goes
Camera input Used to scan product barcodes and, optionally, to take product photos you choose to contribute. Barcode scanning is processed on your device. On-device; photos only if you choose to upload (see Open Food Facts).
Photos / media If you choose to add or contribute a product image, you may select a photo from your gallery and crop it. Uploaded only when you submit it to Open Food Facts.
Precise location (GPS) Used only by the optional prayer-times feature to calculate accurate prayer times for your location. Requested only when you use that feature and grant permission. Used on-device to compute prayer times; not stored by us.
Diagnostics / crash data Crash reports and stack traces, device model, operating-system version and app version, collected to diagnose and fix problems. Google (Firebase Crashlytics & Performance).
Usage & analytics data Anonymous/aggregated interaction events, app open counts, screen views, and device identifiers including the advertising identifier (Android AD_ID), used to understand usage and improve the App. Google (Firebase Analytics).
Locally stored content Favourites, scan history, language and theme preferences, and onboarding state. Stored only on your device. Removed when you uninstall the App.

We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, or payment information, and we do not sell your personal data.

3. Device permissions

The App may request the following permissions, each used solely for the stated purpose:

Camera — Scan barcodes and capture product photos Photos / Storage — Select and crop a product image to contribute Location — Calculate prayer times (optional feature only) Internet — Look up product data and load images Flashlight — Torch while scanning in low light Vibration — Scan feedback Advertising ID — Analytics measurement (Firebase)

You can grant or revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings. Denying a permission only disables the related feature; the rest of the App continues to work.

4. How we use data

  • Provide core features: barcode lookup, additive (E-code) information, favourites, and history.
  • Calculate prayer times for your location, when you use that feature.
  • Maintain stability and fix crashes (diagnostics).
  • Understand aggregate usage and improve the App (analytics).
  • Display product information and images retrieved from third-party data sources.

We do not use your data for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.

5. Third-party services

The App relies on the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:

  • Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Performance Monitoring) — diagnostics and usage measurement. Firebase privacy · Google Privacy Policy .
  • Open Food Facts — the open, collaborative food-product database used to look up products and additives. Product data shown in the App comes from Open Food Facts, and any photo, edit, or contribution you submit becomes part of their public open database (licensed under the Open Database License). Open Food Facts privacy .
  • Google Translate — used to translate product or additive text; the text to be translated is sent to Google's translation service. Google Privacy Policy .
  • Google Play In-App Review — used to optionally prompt you to rate the App on Google Play.

6. Data sharing

We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. Data is shared only with the service providers listed above, and only as needed to operate the relevant features. Aggregated or anonymised statistics may be used to improve the App. We may disclose information if required to do so by law or to protect our legal rights.

7. Retention & deletion

  • On-device data (favourites, history, settings) is kept until you delete it within the App or uninstall the App.
  • Diagnostics and analytics data held by Firebase is retained according to Google's retention policies and our configured retention settings.
  • Contributions to Open Food Facts (e.g. photos you upload) remain part of their public open database and are governed by their terms.

To request deletion of diagnostic/analytics data associated with your device, contact us at the address below and identify your device where possible.

8. Security

Network requests to product-data and Google services use encrypted (HTTPS/TLS) connections. While no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, we take reasonable measures to protect the limited data the App processes.

9. Children's privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us so we can remove it.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Because most data stays on your device, you can exercise many of these rights directly by clearing data in the App or uninstalling it. For diagnostic/analytics data, you can opt out by denying the advertising-ID permission and you may contact us to make a request. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
